How to Reach Your Goals

Have you ever set a goal, and found yourself struggling to stay on track?  It doesn’t matter if it’s a physical fitness goal, spiritual goal, or even a financial goal.  Dave Ramsey says it best: “The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan.”

Welcome to my world!  Up until now, there have been so many goals in my life that I never achieved.  I realize that each time I would give up (or give in), I never had a solid plan in place.  Life would always get in the way.  I had the best intentions, but I would get off-track, and have to start over (and over, and over) again.

How do we develop a plan, set goals and stay on track?  It begins by establishing priorities.  You may believe something is a priority in your life, but how often are you doing it?  If you are not accountable and committing to daily action, it may never have been a priority in the first place.  You see, priorities are the things you put first in your life.  They are non-negotiable.  For me, this meant a complete lifestyle change.  Inside and out.

Although I am self-employed, I get up early.  I get up between 4:15am and 4:45 am almost every day.  Trust me, I love sleeping in as much as the next person, but I need to ensure that I accomplish the things that matter the most in my life.

My number one priority is spending quality time with God every single day.  This doesn’t mean reading for a few minutes, and rattling off a quick prayer; for me, this means that I have dedicated a  significant amount of time to read, journal, pray and develop a more intimate relationship with my Lord and Savior.  This daily discipline is what makes everything else possible in my life.  Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”  Believe me, I don’t have the desire or the ability to wake up that early each day.  However, I know that this is God’s will for my life, and He gives me the ability to do it.  My entire schedule has changed.  For God’s glory, and for my good!

I have have also made the commitment to work out six days per week.  After thoroughly enjoying my Sunday rest day, the last thing this body felt like doing this morning was a 60-minute total body workout program.  But, when I made the commitment to my 80-day journey, it became one of my priorities.  Non-negotiable.  Today is Day 8 and I am still going strong.  And I know, with God as my center, there is no doubt…I will finish well.

Psalm 119:37 says, “Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your Word.”

I have spent the majority of my life focusing on things that have no eternal significance.  But God finally brought me to the place where I knew I needed to fully surrender.  This was the only way that I could truly live.  And now, I am so full of His joy!  I am wholeheartedly seeking Him, and living each day to the fullest.  For this to happen, I needed a plan.  And to know my priorities.  And to live them out.  God first.  My husband second.  And my family, ministry and then others.  For me, these 80 days are just the beginning of the spiritual and physical transformation God is doing in my life.

If you are ready for a change, the time is now.  It starts with a plan, establishing your priorities, and finally (most important), doing it all unto the Lord!
